I enjoyed working with Dr. Riegel. The information she provided was amazing.  I can use all of it in my professional leadership.  Every topic we hit on was something I could bring back to my district and use.  Her knowledge about how people work together and what to do to get them to change behavior is amazing.

Amy Mullins, teacher leader
As a result of a comprehensive communications audit, our district is committed to stepping up our communications and marketing efforts. With that being said, we know that customer service must be our top priority and it is the foundation to changing the perception of our district. Lisa Riegel is actively involved in our leadership teams to constantly support our efforts in providing a positive learning experience for our students and families. With Lisa's support, we are able to communicate this message and follow through on our promise to Relentlessly Pursue Success.

Kevin Kimmel, Superintendent, Bucyrus City Schools
Dr. Lisa Riegel has extensive and varied educational experience. Over the past twenty years, she has taught at the high school, undergraduate and graduate level.  She has effectively brokered partnerships at the local and state level between business and education leaders.  She has also helped schools improve their student performance by developing parent partnerships, improving internal and external communication, empowering staff, and delivering high quality and sustained professional development. She works with schools to set up a NeuroWell culture that is based in brain research and can more effectively engage students and staff. Her strategic counsel on program improvement, culture-building, working with at-risk and neurodivergent students, communication, and evaluation has been sought internationally.

Her customized approach to school improvement includes the identification of key values in the organization, clear expectations for all stakeholders, and an evaluation system to ensure continuous improvement and focus. She is passionate about helping schools understand and develop positive contextual and organizational factors that lead to student success, job satisfaction, and teacher engagement.  She especially enjoys helping schools set up policies and systems to develop collaborative leadership and to embed practices that motivate and celebrate all students and their families. Her leadership coaching focuses on the reduction of training, enthusiasm, or logistics gaps that prevent positive school reform. In all aspects of her work, she strives to help organizations transition from a compliance mentality to a collaborative commitment to reform. She forms long-term relationships with schools and educational organizations, develops and delivers high quality professional development and coaching, and creates implementation strategy to help leaders navigate change management.

Dr. Riegel earned dual bachelor's degrees in English and Secondary Education from Kent State University.  She holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Otterbein University and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University. Her work on community-school partnerships, special education, and value-added data has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and she has authored four other books: No Parent Left Behind , Stop Doing What Doesn't Work: Creating Meaningful Partnerships with Today's Families ,  It’s Not About the Test, and NeuroWell.

Purchase stop doing what doesn't work
We cannot do it alone. We need parents. Schools know this. They try to engage parents. What we do DOESN’T work!  In this book, I help you reframe parent engagement so it does work. I am going to challenge you to step out of the June Cleaver, 1950s antiquated model of parent engagement and embrace your creativity to design engagement that meets the needs of parents in this century. I am going to challenge you to identify and examine your own assumptions and biases about the parents in the community you serve. I am going to push you to clearly define what you want of parents and then to align activities with those purposes. I am going to ask you to think about how you will know you are successful with parents, and I am going to provide a lot of practical, out-of-the-box ideas you can use tomorrow to help engage your parents.

By reading this book and using its principles and ideas, you will become a better educator. Your students will be more engaged and will perform better. Parents will sing your praises. You will be happier and less stressed about working with parents. And, you will able to lead your school to become a more welcoming and cooperative space where parents are real partners.

purchase it's not about the test
It's Not About the Test provides a data cycle and assessment analysis system teachers can use to understand student data and make actionable changes to their Tier 1 instruction.

The book provides step-by-step instructions for creating sound assessments, including how to write a good multiple choice question and how to make sure our assessments have the appropriate depth of knowledge in their questions. It also provides teachers a framework for analyzing student data, grouping students based on their faulty thinking, and remediating concepts students have yet to master.

We spend a lot of time in teams. This book will help your teachers make the most of that time and create insights that will guide improvements in instruction and assessment.
